Good funny holiday card ideas are about your people. A pun about reindeer could come from anyone. A line about the uncle who falls asleep before pie, or the latkes that set off the smoke alarm, could only come from your house. That's the version people forward to their cousins.
Below are ideas and lines for four holidays, in calendar order, then a card where your family's real faces do the singing.

Christmas and Hanukkah card ideas
Christmas
Skip the perfect photo. Send the outtake where the dog is mid-sneeze and your brother has his eyes closed, and caption it "Our best one." Or write the honest year-in-review: "We bought a plant. It's alive. We don't know how." Or let the dog sign the card and confess to eating one (1) couch. If you want lines to write inside:
- The elf on the shelf saw everything, and he's not talking.
- Merry Christmas from the family that put the tree up in November and regrets nothing.
- Wishing you more cookies than relatives, and enough chairs for both.
Our funny Christmas card ideas post has ten more ideas, plus lines for in-laws and coworkers.
Hanukkah
Eight nights is a lot of material. Rank the family by latkes eaten and make up the numbers (they will be disputed). Or send the eight-nights gift report: "Night 1, a sweater. Night 2, socks. Night 3, we ran out of ideas and got you this card." And there's always a cousin who plays dreidel for chocolate coins like there's prize money. Lines:
- Eight nights, eight batches of latkes, one very tired smoke alarm.
- May your candles stay lit and your brisket stay moist.
- Happy Hanukkah to the only person who keeps a dreidel win-loss record.

Thanksgiving and New Year card ideas
Thanksgiving
The comedy is already at the table, so write it down. Draw the seating chart and label who can't sit next to whom. Make the thankful list honest: stretchy pants, the dishwasher, and nobody bringing up politics until dessert. Or send the food-coma photo, everyone asleep on the couch by halftime, captioned "Peak gratitude." Lines:
- I'm thankful for you, and for elastic waistbands.
- I'll bring the rolls. Store-bought, as usual, and you'll eat four.
- Happy Thanksgiving to the cook. The rest of us will be napping in shifts.
The funny Thanksgiving messages post has a whole stack.
New Year's
Grade last year's resolutions on a report card (mostly incompletes, one generous C). Sum up the year in one sentence: "We survived the kitchen renovation and are still married." Or post the photo of everyone asleep at 11:45 with party hats still on. Lines:
- My resolution is to finally return the thing I bought in March.
- Let's both pretend we'll go to the gym, and then not go together.
- Same us, new calendar, still asleep before the ball drops.

Make any of these a holiday video card
One idea works for all four holidays, and it's the one we make, so we're biased: the family music video. On Tangy Limes, you upload one family photo, the faces are found and cut out, and they go on dancers who sing an original holiday song, mouths moving to the words. They're real photo cutouts with no AI changes to anyone's face, so that really is your aunt in a kick line.
- Holly Jolly Family fits four in matching plaid pajamas by a huge tree, then a front yard with far too many blinking lights, then a kitchen full of gingerbread.
- Latke Party fits three: a dining room with a glowing menorah, a kitchen with a mountain of latkes, and a toss of gold chocolate coins.
- Gobble Gobble fits four, flapping their elbows like turkeys, spiking a football in the leaves, then flopping on the couch in sweatpants.
- Friendsgiving fits four for the friends' version, with pies cooling and a touchdown in the backyard.
- Midnight Countdown fits four in a sparkly ballroom, a city street under fireworks, and a living room in pajamas and feather boas.
The big headline on every card can be rewritten, so the seating-chart joke or the latke scoreboard can go right on top. Start with Holly Jolly Family, or see the Hanukkah cards.
The preview with your faces is free. Keeping a card is $1.99, with no subscription, and a share link plays in the family chat without anyone installing anything. Grandpa included.
