Funny Thanksgiving ecards that aren't a cartoon turkey

Skip the clip-art turkey. Send a Thanksgiving video card where four of your family's real faces sing an original song, plus cards for the host.

A funny Thanksgiving ecard should star your family, not a cartoon turkey in a pilgrim hat giving a thumbs-up. Tangy Limes has one called Gobble Gobble: four of your family's real faces, cut out of a photo, on four dancers, singing an original Thanksgiving song with their mouths moving to the words.

So instead of forwarding a turkey, you can forward your uncle. Picture your mother-in-law belting out a song about Thanksgiving with the confidence of someone who brought the good pie. The preview with your photo is free, so you can see exactly that before you pay for anything.

The casting problem. Four dancers. You have more than four relatives. This is the first hard conversation of the holiday, and you get to have it alone. Cast the four people who actually cook, or the four who vanish when it's time for dishes, which is funnier and also a public service. Upload one group photo from last year and tap to choose who goes on which dancer. If the family hasn't all been in the same room lately, upload a few photos and take one face from each.

The headline. It says HAPPY THANKSGIVING, and you can change it to something that sounds more like your family:

  • WHO INVITED HIM
  • I BROUGHT ROLLS. STORE-BOUGHT.
  • THANKFUL FOR ELASTIC WAISTBANDS
  • SEE YOU AT THE KIDS' TABLE
  • NOBODY TOUCH THE THERMOSTAT

Type the names in too. They show up in the intro, which helps in a family chat where three people named Mike are typing at once.

The ones who aren't at the table. Miss Your Face is a one-person card with the headline MISS YOU, for the cousin stuck working a shift or the kid at college who apparently has a lot going on. Thank You! is a one-face card that says THANK YOU in big letters, for whoever hosted and will be finding plates in the garage until Sunday.

The football fight. If one relative takes the game personally, Your Team Lost has a rainy, empty stadium, a tailgate and a couch covered in snacks. My Team Beat Yours has cheering stands, a stadium parking lot and a parade banner. Both work with one face or two, so you can stand right next to your brother-in-law while his team's loss gets its own music video.

Sending it. Wednesday night is good, while everyone's driving or arguing about when the turkey goes in. Thursday morning works too. Or play it on the TV before dinner and watch the table go quiet, which in some families is the real gift. Make a share link for the family chat, email it to up to five relatives from the card page, or download the MP4, in 16:9 for the TV or 9:16 for phones.

Previews are free. Keeping one is $1.99, with no membership to forget about until next Thanksgiving.
