A funny breakup card for a friend should be about your friend, not their ex. On Tangy Limes, that means your friend's real face, cut out of a photo, dancing through a short music video and singing an original breakup song with their mouth moving to the words. The quick version: It's Not Me, It's You for a fresh breakup, So Over You for the angry phase, Table for One for a solo holiday, and You Ghosted Me or Left on Read for a ghosting.
The ex doesn't appear in any of them. They've had enough of your friend's attention.
Pick by what happened
They got dumped, or they did the dumping. It's Not Me, It's You. It opens on a front lawn covered in someone's clothes and a guitar, then hits a disco, a nail salon, and an open highway next to a red convertible. The song is a victory lap. Put your friend on the dancer and it becomes their victory lap, which they've earned, even if they're still in the sweatpants.
They're past sad and into annoyed. So Over You. The headline says SO OVER YOU, and you can leave it exactly like that, because that's the energy you want them to have by Friday.
A couples' holiday is coming and they're solo. Table for One: a candlelit dinner for one, a wedding where everyone else is slow dancing, and a bowling alley, alone. It sounds bleak. Watch it with their face on it and it starts to look like a pretty good night.
They got ghosted. You Ghosted Me has a haunted mansion hallway, a foggy graveyard and a dark bedroom lit only by a phone that never buzzes. Left on Read is the phone-shaped version, made tall in 9:16, and it takes one face or two, so you can get in there with them. Solidarity, with choreography.
What to put in the headline
Every card's headline is editable. A few for a friend in recovery:
- YOU DODGED IT
- HE HAD A PODCAST
- SHE CLAPPED WHEN THE PLANE LANDED
- THEY WEREN'T EVEN THAT TALL
- YOU KEPT THE DOG. YOU WON.
Pick the one that's specifically true about the ex. Specific is funny. General is a sympathy card. And if you're texting it, add one line of your own underneath, like "watched this four times, you look great," so they know it's love and not a dig.
When to send it
Don't send it the night of. That night is for ice cream and agreeing with everything they say. Wait until they've cried the main cry, deleted at least one photo, and said "honestly, I'm fine" in a voice that's almost convincing. That's when a card that makes them laugh is a gift instead of an ambush.
Making it
Find a photo of your friend looking good. This is a hype card, so skip the one from the night it happened. Upload it, or take one with your phone if you're on the couch with them, type the names, and press play. Then watch them try not to laugh at their own face next to a red convertible.
Want in on it? Left on Read fits two, so you can dance next to them. The rest take one face, and it should be theirs.
The preview's free. Keeping it is $1.99, paid once, which is less than the drinks you're also going to buy them. Send a share link to the chat, text them the MP4, or email it to them and up to four other friends who are also tired of hearing about the ex. Then take them out.
